Tricolour

TRICOLOUR I

The original heroic title of Tricolour belonged to French Freedom Fighter Sabrinne Giraudoux during the height of World War II. Prior to this title she was a national treasure and renowned fencer that gained recognition as a consecutive winner of more national and international competitions compared to any woman prior in European history. Her ambitions would lead her to compete in the 1936 Olympic games. Giraudoux bested swordsmen from far and wide, parrying her way into the finals to face German opposition for the gold medal. The femme fatale of fencing would win after a close match, taking her victory with fairness, elegance and skill.

The home audience in Berlin didn't take the win so kindly, making their frustrations clear that a French woman bested their own hero. Nonetheless all eyes were upon her during the medal ceremony - including a man named Heinrich bon Fraunhofer. Fraunhofer was a high ranking officer of a special division of the NSDAP known unofficially as 'Conundrum',  who dealt with both extraordinary individuals and metahuman experiments. He stalked and eventually cornered Giraudoux within her own quarters. offering a place for her as a member of Conundrum. Giraudoux bluntly refused to be any part of the 3rd Reich, and condemned the actions of the NSDAP. Utilizing his mind control abilities Fraunhofer succeeded in pulling the Olympic Champion into the operation, after which she seemingly went missing.

A couple of years later Sabrinne Giraudoux would emerge again as a mind-controlled puppet of Conundrum; a terrorist and assassin that quickly became known and feared to the Axis and Allied opposition alike as "Belle de Vichy". Under this alias for a couple of years she became personally responsible for silencing dozens of rebel groups across occupied Europe for good. During one of these raids, Belle de Vichy would come across an underground rebel operation lead by an elusive, infamous metahuman French spy named Alexandre Aumont. Certain that the death of which would please her superiors to no end, she ordered Alexandre and the men accompanying him to death by firing squad. Alex was granted his final words, in which chance he would proceed to sing the French Anthem.

At first she demanded he stopped, but such a powerful song tied to her true identity was strong enough to sever the mental hold Heinrich bon Fraunhofer retained over her, and snap out of the hypnotic state. Immediately turning on the Axis, the Belly de Vichy no more freed Aumont and his men. Together they disarmed and defeated the German soldiers, and upon feeling demoralized and betraying to her own, Sabrinne joined Alexandre's operation, announcing her true loyalty to the Allies and becoming the heroine Tricolour - mistress of the blade, and pride of France. She survived throughout the rest of the second World War, and eventually married Alexandre Aumont in 1946. They had one daughter; Alexandre passing down the metahuman gene. Raising a family soon became a higher priority which lead them to opt out of continuing major heroic work. Even through the many years to follow, Tricolour became a bit of a legendary figure of Europe.
TRICOLOUR II

Sabrinne Giraudoux died in 1995, six years after her husband Alexandre passed away. During her last few bed-ridden years she would delight in sharing several of her heroic stories with her three great grandchildren the next generation of their ongoing family legacy. The youngest of which, Claude, was especially taken with the woman and the days of World War II, despite his very young age; idolizing her more than anyone; even after her death. Born in France but growing up in a town just North of Montreal, he still obsessed over the Tricolour and what it meant to his great grandmother, taking up activities such as fencing and gymnastics. Though he was too young to remember everything in person, he'd spend hours and hours watching old videos and looking through ancient pictures. Claude and his older siblings were expected to develop metahuman abilities during adolescence in the same manner as their parents and grandparents before them - a pattern without fail since Alexandre's induction to the gene pool.

Alexandre's and Sabrinne's daughter Evette founded the 'family super team' Le Bouclier Bleu, which his generation were to become a part of as well. As predicted, his two older brothers would develop special abilities coming of age, and after an extended period of time it became clear that Claude did not exhibit any signs of a latent metagene like the rest of his family, instead remaining dormant. The soon-to-be hero was consistently outcast by his older brothers, and excluded from various operations that the Aumont-Nouvels became known for. Claude grew increasingly depressed, and developed a bit of an inferiority-complex. It was but a single vivid dream of his great grandmother's stories coming to life that convinced him of what he wanted his destiny to be - he was going to carry on Sabrinne's torch, and dawn the title of Tricolour. Through a different path beside his superpowered brothers, Claude sacrificed all that he needed to in order to constantly learn, train, practice and prepare to be everything the original Tricolour was - a hero that didn't require any superhuman powers to fight for what she believed in.

He brought his own form of success as he begin to win several national and international competitions, going as far as being placed for Olympic trials. During the heroic family's yearly visit to Nice, an old enemy of Le Bouclier Bleu managed to track down and invade their secret hotel location, successfully disabling Claude's family members while Claude himself left for a night walk prior carrying his prized rapier. Coming back to a scene of armed thugs holding the entire hotel hostage,  Claude tapped into the natural talent he honed within him for years, where his combination of swordsmanship and acrobatic prowess enabled him to accompany French authorities, and easily defeat the intruders. Extremely impressed and grateful of their youngest son, his parents officially made Claude a member of Le Bouclier Bleu.

He received a specially made uniform splashed with the colours of France, cementing his identity as the second Tricolour - fighting at the side of of his family and carrying his great grandmother's burden for the sake of benevolence. As Tricolour, Claude eventually started to branch out on his own and take on tasks outside of the family dynamic, spending time with a couple of organizations located in Rhode Island, and later Detroit Michigan before returning back to Quebec. Parallel to his hero work Claude also spent time completing a bachelor's degree in French Literature at the Université de Montréal, and honing his skills as an Olympic level fencer. He became widely known for his signature, dual-bladed style that incorporated elements of acrobatics and dance.

Abilities
Swordsmanship: An extremely proficient and Olympic-class swordsman, Tricolour's skill surpasses his roots in Fencing techniques to also incorporate Nito-Ken in addition to his trademark Florentine and other dual-bladed affinities - providing a unique agile, graceful and rhythmic fighting style. He is known as one of the most skilled blade masters to ever come from Europe in the modern age. He has accomplished several incredible feats expressing his accuracy, including reflecting bullets off his blade (the material bonded to which enables such a thing to be possible). This stunt isn't tried willingly however, though he is still very capable of intercepting slower ranged projectiles with his blades.

Acrobatics: Tricolour has also trained and studied as a gymnast, utilizing a variety of acrobatic techniques to compliment his fighting style. He has expressed a great degree of agility and flexibility, enabling him to more effectively avoid attack or shift his position in combat situations.

Unarmed Combat: He possesses a moderate degree of hand-to-hand combat, having briefly studied Judo, and a few street fighting techniques under his father's eye. His preference still remains armed melee combat however, as he is more keen in avoiding and retreating from attack if unarmed in most situations.

Fitness: Tricolour maintains great physical condition and a healthy lifestyle; exercising on a regular basis.

Trilingual: Tricolour is able to communicate effectively in French (and Canadian-French variant), and English and German as secondary and tertiary languages.

Technology: While not boasting the skill of an advanced technologist or computer wizard, he does retain and grasp the knowledge on the use of modern technologies quite effectively.

Weapons
Offensive: Tricolour has possession of a variety of bladed weapons to compensate for numerous circumstances. He has acquired a collection of fencing equipment including a personal preference and specialty for Sabres, Foils and Épée, though is most commonly seen with dual Sabres or Rapier as his main choice of combat weaponry. The actual blades are used only in dire circumstances that call for them, otherwise the blades are fixed with blunting safety devices and used more through jabbing or thrusting, or non-lethal 'cutting' techniques opposed to being used for intentional lethal assault.

Utility: He makes use of the latest in protection wear; his symbolic costume is made with a woven heat resistant and bullet-proof material in order to prevent excessive harm. His utility belt not only enables the sheathing of his bladed weaponry, but is also equipped with a telecommunication-link radio device that enables him to establish communication and listen through a variety of channel frequencies.

First Appearance: City of Heroes (2010-2012).
